AUNT'S HEART
The day I heard the news of you,
My heart smiled because I knew.
A little child to simply love,
With all the best your Aunt's made of
I would brighten to think of you,
And imagine all the things we'd do
I'd invent silly sounds and faces,
And shop at the loveliest baby places.
You'd paint pictures just for me,
In chorus we'd sing our ABCs
I'd glow from the twinkle in your eyes,
Each time your special Aunt stopped by
You'd lead me by the hand to play,
Insist I never leave, but stay.
You'd love to call me on the phone.
I'd marvel at how much you'd grown
I'd tell tales from your parents youth,
Prize photos of you with a missing tooth.
When you were born, I welcomed you.
You were our family's dream come true.
A little angel now ours to hold,
Your Aunt's heart blossom and unfolds.
I was love-struck, I held you tight.
Your new life made the world seem right
Like a big sister and best friend,
I'd be there for you again and again.
The day I heard the news of you
My heart smiled, because I knew
A friend to always simply love,
And give the best your Aunt's made of.
